James Jones Timber Systems
James Jones is one of the largest largest timber processing groups in Europe. They found themselves in the awkward position of relying on an old piece of testing equipment to check the loads capacity of their JJI-Joists, with only one individual trained to operate it. There was no electronic record of the tests and it was becoming increasingly difficult to perform tests at required speeds and loads due to the limitations of existing equipment.
A solution would have to be retrofitted to the existing assembly and incorporate the ability to perform all tests required. All the data would need to be stored locally and loaded onto the customer server. The machine was located in Forres, so remote access was required.
A simple to use interface would be required to allow for minimal training requirements – 100kn force requirements.
Bosch Rexroth provided a gearbox and planetary screw rated for the required loads. Scotia connected this to a servo motor to provide the linear motion and control of the required forces and speeds. Data was stored in the user archive system of the SCADA and uploaded to the customer network via a custom script. Remote access was achieved using an EWON IOT router.
